Image result for samsara buddhism symbol             This year in IQuest I have learned and accomplished a multitude of things that I previously thought were unattainable. I have had the opportunity to work with some of the most experienced glassblowers in the state and have also learned and refined many Muay Thai techniques in martial arts training. What I enjoyed most about glass blowing was getting the opportunity to learn from very talented people, giving me the knowledge to create art on my own. I was most productive at the studio in Berkeley and I am most proud of my mom's glass pendant that I made her for Christmas. I learned many things while I was there, like learning how to operate a torch station properly and how to not burn myself. I also learned many different glass blowing techniques as well as techniques in Muay Thai. I learned a lot about myself as well. I learned I can do well in certain things, if I genuinely enjoy them and also I learned I am a very quick learner. I wish I could have learned more about glass blowing and the techniques but it became too expensive and didn't fit into my schedule with school. I also wish I had more time to refine my Muay Thai techniques. My individual effort was very substantial because of my interest in glass blowing and Muay Thai. I fell short in following through with glass blowing but I reallocated my effort into Muay Thai afterward. This experience will prepare me in the future by making me already comfortable with choosing my own path and doing things the way I want. I would recommend this program to others because it helped me grow immensely as a person.

"The secret of getting ahead is getting started."

-Mark Twain

This is a quote by Mark Twain, one of my favorite authors, and he's saying that by starting something, you've already gotten ahead of most people. Instead of just saying you're going to do something, or plan on doing something, just do it. This is very relevant in my IQuest journey because instead of just planning on chasing my passion after high school and I can get started now and be ahead of the game. Many people linger on the thought of beginning new adventures, or projects because they think of the work involved or the effort they have to put into it but this quote stresses the idea of just started things spontaneously and seeing where you end up.This concept is very important to grasp and has helped me through out my young life. Blog #10

This is the word cloud I have created over the past couple weeks which somewhat describes me. I feel personality tests and quizzes only go so far and don't totally encompass me as a person. All of these words do describe me in a way but are so general that they can be attributed to many different people. I think personality tests are rather cut and paste, and can only describe me to a certain extent.

blog 8

This year in Iquest has been very successful for me. I went to Revere every week on mondays for about three and a half hours and learned many glass blowing techniques.  The fist few things I learned was how to be safe around hot glass and a burning torch. Then I learned how to make marbles, blanks, and things called murrias. Though out the whole process I was assisted by my mentor, learning the technical procedures along the way. Some other techniques I learned was how to rap and rake, frit, fume, dot stack, cross hatch, honeycomb and the implosion. An implosion is a simple technique that I used to make a pendant for my mom for a christmas present. Ive learned a lot so far and plan to continue and improve my skills. I believed Ive achieved my 1st semester goals and with the help of my mentors and Mrs. Sekera I hope to achieve many more next semester.

blog 5 Research

The person I am doing research on is Dale Chihuly. I chose Dale Chihuly because he is a major staple in the glass blowing community because of his foundation of glass schools, creation of over 200 museum collections worldwide, and techniques he has discovered. Chihuly has created more than a dozen well known seriers of work, among them, Cylinders and Baskets in the 1970s, Seaforms, Macchia, Venetians, and Persians in the 1980s; Niijima Floats and Chandeliers in the 1990s; and Fiori in the 2000s. He is also revered for his architectural installations. His work pertaining to group style glassblowing changed the way people go about making intricate glass sculptures. Chihuly is one of the most experienced glass blowers alive is that is why I chose him.
What I already know is Dale Chihuly has learned many glass blowing techniques over his life time, and has incorporated them into his work. He utilizes teams to make his creations of beauty. Chihuly is praised for his intricate constructions of mass scale, detail, and work and I hope to learn more about how he conducts his work so precisely, with a clear vision of the final product.
